Funfair Ride Hire FAQs
Find answers to frequently asked questions about fairground ride hire with Ride Hire Group Ltd, including bookings, payments, delivery, installation, safety and event requirements.
Can you provide rides not shown on your website?
Yes. Through our extensive industry connections and trusted network of independent fairground ride owners, we can source a wide range of additional rides and attractions that may not currently be featured on our website.
Visit our Additional rides page or contact us with your requirements. Ride Hire Group Ltd will remain your main point of contact throughout the booking.
Will the ride look exactly like the website photograph?
Photographs on our website are intended to illustrate the type and style of attractions available.
The exact ride supplied may vary in artwork, colours, lighting or decorative features. Where a specific attraction has been agreed, any material substitution will be discussed with you beforehand.
What types of events do you provide rides for?
We supply fairground rides and attractions for corporate events, weddings, festivals, council celebrations, school fairs, family fun days, private parties, Christmas markets and large public events.
Where do you provide fairground ride hire?
Based in Leicestershire, Ride Hire Group Ltd provides nationwide fairground ride hire throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
Availability and transport arrangements depend on the attraction and event location.
What is included in the hire price?
Unless otherwise specified in your quotation, the hire price includes:
-
Delivery to the agreed location.
-
Professional installation and dismantling.
-
Trained and experienced operating staff supplied by the relevant ride owner.
-
Operation throughout the agreed hire period.
Generator provision, fuel arrangements and any additional site requirements will be confirmed individually within your quotation.
How long is the standard hire period?
Our standard operating period is four hours unless otherwise agreed.
Additional operating hours may be available, normally charged at £100 per hour for smaller attractions and £200 per hour for larger attractions.
The applicable rate will be confirmed in your quotation.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes. A 25% deposit is required to secure your booking.
The remaining 75% balance must be paid no later than 14 days before your event.
Bookings made within 14 days require payment in full upon confirmation, unless alternative payment arrangements have been agreed in writing.
How is my booking confirmed?
Your booking is confirmed once the required deposit has been received and Ride Hire Group Ltd has issued written confirmation.
Our Terms & Conditions will be provided before your booking is confirmed.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancellation charges depend on how much notice is given and the reasonable losses resulting from the cancellation.
Our standard cancellation charges are:
-
30 days or more before the event: 25% of the agreed hire charge.
-
1–29 days before the event: 50% of the agreed hire charge.
-
On the event day: Up to 100% where justified by the losses incurred.
Charges are subject to applicable law and will take account of costs saved and reasonable opportunities to secure replacement bookings.
Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for full details.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for weekends, school holidays, festivals and Christmas events.
Short-notice bookings may also be available, depending on the attractions required.
What access do you require?
Safe and suitable access is required for delivery vehicles, trailers and equipment.
Please inform us of any narrow entrances, restricted access, tight turns, overhead obstructions, underground services or other potential difficulties.
Accurate access information helps us plan delivery and installation safely.
What type of ground can the rides be installed on?
Many attractions can be installed on suitable surfaces, including grass, tarmac, concrete, paved areas and firm gravel.
Ground suitability depends on the individual ride, its weight, required anchoring or support arrangements and prevailing site conditions.
Some uneven surfaces may be suitable where appropriate levelling arrangements can be safely used.
We may request photographs, measurements or additional information before confirming suitability.
Does the ground need to be completely level?
Not necessarily. Some attractions can accommodate minor differences in ground level using suitable levelling equipment.
The permitted gradient depends on the individual attraction and its installation requirements.
Where necessary, we may recommend a site visit.
Do you carry out site visits?
Yes, where required.
Site visits are subject to a minimum charge of £100, with the final cost depending on location, travel distance and requirements.
Any charge will be confirmed and agreed before the visit takes place.
How much space do the rides require?
Space requirements vary depending on the attraction.
Sufficient room must be available for installation, safe operation, any required barriers, customer access and delivery vehicles.
Contact us with details of your venue and preferred attractions so we can advise on suitability.
Do you need access to electricity?
Power requirements depend on the individual attraction.
Many fairground rides operate using generators, so mains electricity is not always required.
Generator provision, fuel arrangements and any additional power requirements will be confirmed within your quotation.
What happens in bad weather?
Most fairground rides can operate safely during normal rainfall. However, high winds, thunderstorms, flooding or other unsafe conditions may require an attraction to temporarily stop operating.
Where a ride has been delivered, installed and made ready for operation, the full agreed hire charge remains payable. Weather-related interruptions do not normally qualify for a refund, except where required by law.
The ride operator has final authority over safe operation.
What happens if there is a breakdown?
All attractions are required to be appropriately maintained and inspected. However, mechanical or electrical faults can occasionally occur.
Where a temporary breakdown is resolved promptly without a significant loss of operating time, a refund will not normally apply.
Where substantial operating time is lost, a proportionate refund or price reduction will be assessed for the affected attraction.
If an attraction cannot be supplied and no suitable replacement is provided, the hire charge for that attraction will be refunded.
These arrangements are subject to statutory rights.
Are the rides insured and inspected?
Yes. All attractions supplied through Ride Hire Group Ltd must have appropriate safety inspection documentation, including current ADIPS certification or other applicable certification where required.
Public liability insurance typically ranges from £5 million to £25 million on selected attractions, depending on the individual ride and event requirements.
Relevant documentation can be supplied upon request.
What is the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain?
The Showmen's Guild of Great Britain is a recognised organisation representing travelling showmen and their interests within the fairground industry.
Ride Hire Group Ltd benefits from extensive fairground industry experience and works with established ride owners and operators, including Showmen's Guild members.
Do you follow HSE guidance?
Yes. All attractions must comply with applicable health and safety legislation, relevant Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance and recognised industry safety standards.
Can you provide safety paperwork?
Yes. Risk assessments, method statements, insurance documentation and inspection certificates can be provided where required.
Please advise us of any documentation deadlines when making your enquiry.
Who operates the rides?
Each attraction is supplied with appropriately trained and experienced operating staff provided by the individual ride owner.
Guests, venue staff and event organisers are not permitted to operate the attractions.
Are there height, age or health restrictions?
Yes. Individual attractions may have height, age, weight, capacity or health-related restrictions.
These vary between rides and are enforced by the operating staff for passenger safety.
Can you refuse someone access to a ride?
Yes. Ride operators may refuse admission where a passenger does not meet the attraction's safety requirements, ignores instructions, behaves dangerously or appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Can we hire more than one ride?
Yes. You can hire a single attraction or several rides to create a larger fairground experience.
We can help you select an appropriate combination for your event, audience, available space and budget.
Can you help us choose suitable rides?
Absolutely. Tell us about your event, expected number of guests, age groups, venue and budget, and we can recommend suitable attractions.
Can the rides operate indoors?
Some attractions may be suitable for indoor venues, subject to adequate access, floor space, ceiling height, ventilation and structural suitability.
Indoor installations must be discussed and approved before the booking is confirmed.
Do you provide barriers and safety equipment?
The necessary operational safety equipment and ride-specific barriers will be supplied where required.
Additional event fencing, crowd-control barriers, security and wider site-management arrangements must be agreed separately.
Does the venue need to be ready before you arrive?
Yes. The agreed installation area must be clear, accessible and ready before the scheduled arrival.
Vehicles, furniture, stalls, barriers and other obstructions must be removed from the designated area.
Delays caused by an unprepared site may result in additional costs or reduced operating time.
When will you arrive to set up?
Arrival and installation arrangements will be agreed before your event.
Setup times vary depending on the size and requirements of the attractions.
Please ensure the venue is accessible at the agreed time.
Can the ride be set up the day before?
Yes, this may be possible depending on availability, access, security and operational arrangements.
Additional charges may apply for early installation, overnight attendance or delayed collection.
Do you provide security overnight?
Overnight security is not included unless specifically agreed in writing.
Where equipment remains on-site overnight, the hirer may be required to provide suitable security arrangements.
Do staff need food and drinks?
Operating staff require access to suitable welfare facilities, including toilets and drinking water.
Where staff remain on-site for extended periods, any additional catering requirements will be agreed in advance.
Staff are entitled to reasonable breaks while attractions remain safely supervised.
